As indie musicians, we are all looking for new ways to get our music out into the world. While many of the traditional platforms for marketing music have worked well for the indie music industry, we are a new era of music. We are known for ingenuity and thinking outside of the box. This ability to be creative is the key element that led to the birth of the indie music revolution and our ability to evolve as the new leaders of the music world. As our music has evolved, so has our marketing techniques and our ability to keep an open mind to new ideas has given us the ability to rise above the commercial music industry.

The latest trend in marketing for independent recording artists has been very popular among our fans. This trend is offering free mp3 downloads of music to the fans. A short while ago, the trend evolved in a new way thanks to the creators of FrostWire, a peer to peer sharing network. This new metamorphosis was made possible by a service they are calling FrostClick.

FrostClick is a place for new recording artists to share their music and earn some free promotion. In exchange for providing their album for free download, an approved recording artist can have themselves featured on the FrostWire welcome screen for at least three days.

There are a few simple rules regarding what is eligible listed on their site:

• You must own all rights to the music you are offering for download.

• All content must be legal and free to download. (Creative Commons licensed content is definitely preferred.)

• You need to have at least one professionally produced album (with a 5 song minimum length).

• All songs should be ‘radio edited’ or ‘clean’ versions.

• You need to have a high resolution image of your album cover and some promotional photographs (Having these images on a white background insures that they will blend well with the FrostWire welcome screen)

• You need to have a simple text document with your bio and album info.

• Your music should be available online for review through your bands website or online profiles.

• Lyrics and Guitar Tabs are not required but they addition of these little extras makes the download much more popular among fans.

As in other places, the more popular an indie recording artist is, the more likely they are to get accepted for promotion through FrostClick so if you have been interviewed by music magazines or you have an online presence, be sure to include that information when you submit your album for promotion. There is a long list of recording artists waiting to be promoted by FrostClick so give yourself every advantage you can by submitting your very best work and providing as much self promotion as possible.
